Big Rock Mesas Fire Safe Council

Our Fire Safe Council was formed so that we can  educate our community on how to protect their homes from Wildfire.

To sign up for notifications of current fires and to receive  updated fire information  contact bigrockstreetteams@gmail.com .

In the event of an approaching Wildfire, water must be conserved so that our limited supply will be available to homeowners and firefighters when the Fire has reached us.  Do not water your roofs or turn on your sprinklers and leave. This water evaporates within minutes due to the heat and low humidity of an approaching Wildfire.  In 1993,  because the community had exhausted our water supply, there was no water to fight the fire and fifty homes were destroyed.

It is extremely important for residents to realize that  access to water depends on water being available from our water tanks at the top of Big Rock.

Water to these tanks are supplied by three pumps  that require Electricity  to operate.  Since SCE is cutting off power during high winds, Your Association is seeking to acquire  three generators as backup.

We have a robust educational program that includes Street Teams that help to  educate our residents on how to   protect their homes from Wildfires.

We  annually clear a two hundred foot buffer around our community.

We also try to enforce  a ten foot buffer on all access streets & driveways in and out of Big Rock.

We ask all residents to do their part in keeping Big Rock a Fire Safe Community.
